Hunter Status Definition Requirement for Obtaining a License
Spirit Lake Nation Tribal Member This category applies to enrolled members of the Spirit Lake Tribe. Spirit Lake tribal enrollment number
Spirit Lake Reservation Resident This category applies to persons residing on the Spirit Lake Reservation, but are not members of the Spirit Lake Tribe. ND driver's license establishing residency on SLN
North Dakota Resident This category applies to persons residing in North Dakota and who are not members of the Spirit Lake Tribe. A valid ND driver's license
Out-of-State Resident This category applies to persons not residing in North Dakota and who are not members of the Spirit Lake Tribe. A valid driver's license
Affiliated Tribal Member This category applies to any person enrolled as a member in any other recognized tribe within the United States A valid driver’s license and a valid enrollment number

Effective 2014:

  • Any person born after December 31st, 1978 must show proof of a hunter safety course.

  • Any enrolled member  between the ages 12 of 18 is required to show proof of a hunter before a hunting license will be issued

  • It is requested that enrolled members show proof of a hunter safety course when being issued a license/tag

  • Enrolled members must pick up a hunting license prior to hunting any species

Hunting fees and limits are set each year. Harvest limits and number of licenses sold to any person not enrolled in the Spirit Lake Tribe can fluctuate from year to year. Please click below to see the 2014 season date and fees.

2017 Hunting/Fishing Fees

PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Lake Nation Fish and Wildlife Department office can only accept a check or money order as a method of payment for purchasing a hunting and/or fishing license.  However, fishing licenses can be purchased via other payment methods at the Spirit Lake Marina.


Enrolled members only obtain one tag for white-tailed deer at a time. Multiple tags can be requested.

Seasons on other Big Game species will only be opened upon review of yearly biological data.
